Hindupur MLA and actor Nandamuri Balakrishna, who is the brother-in-law of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, is going to continue his Good Samaritan work through his Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital by establishing a new hospital with 300 beds in Amaravati very soon. The government of AP has reportedly alloted 15 acres in the vicinity of Amaravati for construction of this hospital and works have already commenced to complete it very soon.
Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital was set-up in Hyderabad fifteen years ago as a not-for-profit hospital to provide affordable treatment for cancer patients across the country. The Indo-American cancer hospital is regarded as one of the best and among top-ranked hospitals in India which provides Cancer treatment to middle class and poor people. Balakrishna established this hospital in the memory of her mother, Basavatarakam, who is wife of legendary actor NTR.
After the separation of Telugu states, there have been efforts to set-up a similar hospital in Andhra Pradesh. The plans finally turned fruitful with the return of Chandrababu Naidu as Chief Minister in the recent elections. Balakrishna has reportedly proposed to establish the hospital in Amaravati so that the people across the state can visit the capital city rather than going all the way to Hyderabad for medical treatment. This is a charitable move from Balakrishna and his decision is welcomed by all sections irrespective of political affiliations.
As cancer treatment in private hospital is very prohibitive and beyond the reach of common man, Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital is likely to end the woes of the patients who are suffering for the disease. Balakrishna aims to extend the hospital to 1000 beds in future and provide adequate facilities to all patients who visit the hospital.
Balakrishna has already inspected the site and also spoke with CRDA authorities for construction of hospital. After the clearance of all bushes and trees around the allotted site, the construction will commence next year.
