The politics of confrontation continued between ruling Congress and the main opposition BRS in Telangana, frequently resulting in clashes. Days after the defected MLA Arekapudi Gandhi’s alleged attack on its MLA Kaushik Reddy created severe tension in the city, the proposed visit of a BRS fact-finding committee led to another confrontation.
The Congress government is creating hurdles for the BRS fact-finding committee appointed to study the deplorable condition of hospitals in the state, including Gandhi Hospital. Without studying the conditions in government hospitals, detentions are being carried out.
The BRS party has appointed a three-member committee with former Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Rajaiah, MLA Dr. Kalvakuntla Sanjay and former MLA Dr. Metuku Anand to study the deteriorated medical and health system in the state and give a report to the government. This committee is scheduled to take up the field from Monday. As part of this, they have decided to visit Gandhi Hospital on Monday at 11 am.
But a large number of police personnel reached the houses of the committee members, including president and former Deputy Chief Minister Dr T Rajaiah, MLA Dr Kalvakuntla Sanjay and former MLA Dr Metuku Anand, and tried to prevent them from visiting the hospital. They wondered over police action and asked them to leave their homes immediately and said that the government should stop such cowardly actions.
“Why is the government worried about our visit to hospitals to examine the conditions? Is the government hiding the issue of maternal and child deaths in Gandhi Hospital or are they afraid that the failure of their administration will be exposed?” they asked.
The committee members are questioning why the government is afraid of going to Gandhi Hospital as expert doctors to give suggestions to the government to provide better services to the people and not for politics.
Dr Rajaiah questioned whether the state government is hiding the issue of maternal and child deaths mentioned by their party in Gandhi Hospital? Or is it afraid that the failure of their administration will come out?
