The BJP has announced its candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha by-elections scheduled for September 3. The party revealed the names of nine candidates, including Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu from Rajasthan and another Union Minister, George Kurien, from Madhya Pradesh. From Bihar, the party has nominated Manan Kumar Mishra, Chairman of the Bar Council of India and a senior lawyer, while former BJD leader Mamata Mohanta is contesting from Odisha. Rajib Bhattacharya is the BJP’s candidate from Tripura.
The BJP has also announced Mission Ranjan Das and Rameshwar Teli from Assam, Kiran Choudhury from Haryana, and Dhiraj Patil from Maharashtra. By-elections are being held for 12 vacant Rajya Sabha seats on September 3 due to several leaders winning seats in the Lok Sabha.
Notable Rajya Sabha members who have transitioned to the Lok Sabha include Union Ministers Piyush Goyal, Sarbananda Sonowal, and Jyotiraditya Scindia. Other Rajya Sabha members who won in the Lok Sabha elections include Kamakhya Prasad (BJP), Misha Bharti (RJD), Vivek Thakur (BJP), Deepender Singh Hooda (Congress), Udayanraje Bhosale (BJP), K.C. Venugopal (Congress), and Biplab Kumar Deb (BJP). As a result, by-elections for the vacant Rajya Sabha seats have become necessary.
