Bhogapuram Airport To Start Operations By 2026

Saturday, September 7, 2024

The proposed greenfield international airport in Bhogapuram of Andhra Pradesh assumes great significance because it is located at a distance of 40 kms from the coastal city of Vishakapatnam. As it is considered as one of the future growth engines for the backward districts of North Andhra, political parties accorded top priority to this airport in their manifestos.

Though the previous government vowed to complete the airport at a swift pace during its tenure, it ultimately failed to keep its promise. With the change of guard in the state and Chandrababu Naidu back at the helm of affairs, hopes on making the Bhogapuram airport operational revived among the people of Andhra Pradesh.

As Srikakulam MP Ram Mohan Naidu is the current civil aviation minister, the development works relating to Bhogapuram Airport picked up steam in the last few days. On Tuesday, Naidu visited the ongoing works at the airport and promised that the operations will kick start by 2026.

Ram Mohan Naidu stated that the central government is very committed to complete the Bhogapuram airport at a rapid pace and expressed confidence on meeting the timelines without fail. He said the airport will result in employment for more than 6 lakh people.

The Civil Aviation Minister stated that CM Chandra Babu Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan are very keen on bringing the long cherished dream of North Andhra people into a reality in the next two years. He informed that the first terminal will be completed by the end of this December.

The GMR Group should take the necessary steps in this regard,” said Mr. Rammohan Naidu. He hoped that the airport would have more passenger traffic compared to the initial estimation of 4.4 lakh per year.
