Nagarampalem police in Guntur registered a case of attempt to murder and custodial torture against former chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy, besides senior IPS officers PV Sunil Kumar and PSR Anjaneyulu on the basis of complaint given by former YCP MP and presently TDP MLA K Raghuramakrishnam Raju.
Raju has been fighting against custodial torture on him during the previous YS Jaganmohan Reddy regime for the last three years. He also complained to the police after the change of government on June 10. As no action was initiated by any agency, finally he made a complaint to the police.
This is the first case registered against Jaganmohan Reddy, after he lost power. Raghurama stated in the complaint that there was an attempt to kill him on May 14, 2021 and he was beaten with a rubber belt and sticks in the police custody.
While Jaganmohan Reddy was named as Accused No 3 in the FIR, the then AP CID Director General Sunil Kumar was named as A1, the then intelligence chief PSR Anjaneyulu was named as A2, CID official Vijaypal as A4 and the then Guntur Government General Hospital Superintendent Dr Prabhavathi as A5, besides some other names.
Raghurama alleged that Jaganmohan Reddy, who had cultivated a grudge against him after filing a petition in the court seeking cancellation of Jagan’s bail order, was arrested after filing flimsy cases against him. He alleged that though he had CRPF security in Hyderabad, they were forcefully sent out and brought to Guntur from Hyderabad and severely tortured.
He alleged that the police had filmed the scenes of his torture on the phone and sent them to someone, and those in Tadepalli palace had watched them. He accused that he was arrested on the orders of the then Chief Minister.
Raghuramaraju sent his complaint to the police on Thursday. He alleged that he was severely tortured in custody, tried to kill him by sitting on his chest and beat him to tell him the password of his mobile phone, even though he had undergone a bypass surgery. He also filed a complaint against GGH Dr. Prabhavati who treated him alleged she submitted false medical reports under police pressure. He said that Sunil Kumar had threatened to kill Jagan if he criticized him.
Cases of attempted murder and conspiracy have been registered against the accused. Cases were registered under Sections 120B, 166, 167, 197, 307, 326, 465, 508(34) of Indian Judiciary.
