The Andhra Pradesh Infrastructure Secretary Suresh Kumar has asked the central government to cooperate in implementing the BharatNet project in Andhra Pradesh more widely. To this extent, Union Minister of State for Communications Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, Secretary of Union Telecommunication Department Neeraj Mittal, AP Investments and Infrastructure Secretary Suresh Kumar and AP Fibernet MD K. Dinesh Kumar together appealed to Delhi.
Union Minister of State for Communications Pemmasani submitted a report on the implementation of the Bharat Net project in Andhra Pradesh. Suresh Kumar asked for the central government’s cooperation to implement the Bharat Net project more widely.
The state government has asked the center to supply 35 lakh CPE (Customer Premise(s) Equipment) boxes to the state for utilization of Bharat Net capacity. Officials have asked AP to reimburse Rs 650 crore spent on multi-protocol label switching technology as part of Bharat Net’s second phase.
The state government has revealed that AP SFL (Andhra Pradesh State FiberNet Limited) is providing high speed brand bond services to 9.7 lakh households in rural areas. Out of which 5 lakh connections are active. Apart from these, the government explained to the center that fiber net services are being provided to 6 thousand 200 schools, 1978 health centers, 11,254 gram panchayats, 5,800 farmers’ centers and 9,104 government centers.
The Andhra Pradesh government has told the center that if 35 lakh CPE boxes are provided immediately, they will expand the services of Bharat Net. Officials explained that Bharat Net Phase-3 proposals will also be submitted to the Centre.
