The AP Electricity Regulatory Council (ERC) Chairman Ramsingh Tagore announced that there will be no increase in electricity charges for electricity consumers in the state in any category. He released the electricity tariff in the state for the year 2025-26 in Tirupati. The tariff was to be released by March 31, but it will be released in February itself.
He said that there will be no additional burden on consumers as the state government will allocate Rs 12,632 crore to the distribution companies to cover the deficit between electricity generation and distribution revenue and expenditure. The electricity supply tariff amounts for the year 2025-26 were revealed in Tirupati.
The ERC Chairman said that earlier, electricity connections were granted at commercial tariffs for house construction, and a change has been made in this system as well. He said that the ERC has approved granting electricity connections in the household consumer category to those who build houses individually.
The government has changed the coal import policies of power generating companies (GENCOs), which will increase the generation capacity of GENCOs. With the government’s initiative, there will be no additional burden on electricity consumers in the state for the next year.
The ERC Chairman said that the three DISCOMs in the state have proposed annual expenditure requirements of Rs 58,868.52 crore. The ERC has approved a reduction of Rs 1324 crore in the DISCOMs’ proposals to Rs 57,544.17 crore. While the income from DISCOMs is Rs 44,323.30 crore, the gap between income and expenditure has reached Rs 12,632.40 crore.
He explained that there will be no impact on consumers as the state government has approved the amount to make up the deficit between income and expenditure. Moreover, he said that the government will pay the necessary subsidies to the electricity distribution companies to provide free electricity to the agriculture-related sectors such as horticulture and aqua sectors.
He said that an additional load regulation scheme has been introduced for household consumers. He said that earlier, 100 percent regulation fee was collected from those who used electricity in addition to the permitted amount.
He said that the Regulatory Board has approved that consumers pay only the remaining 50 percent by giving a 50 percent subsidy on the additional load consumption fee. In order to increase the number of electric vehicles, he said that vehicle charging stations have been approved to use electricity through LT lines.
