The Andhra Pradesh Women’s Commission Chairperson Smt. Gajjela Laxmi has been sacked by the government. An YCP activist, she is continuing though her term ended last month. So, the state government has issued orders to remove her immediately.
In this regard, the government issued a circular giving instructions to the concerned department. Learning that the government is acting against her, Gajjela Lakshmi has announced her resignation from the post of Chairman on Tuesday morning. But, the government has issued orders on Monday evening. Government sources say that the term of office of the members has been completed after the dismissal of the chairman.
Meanwhile, Gajjela Lakshmi’s comments that she has nothing to do with Mumbai actress Kadambari Jethwani’s case have caused a furore. The TDP leaders were furious at this. She said that the Commission cannot take up Jethwani’s case, as she belongs to Maharashtra and she further advised her to approach the Maharashtra State Women’s Commission.
The uproar erupted with the words of the Chairperson of the AP Women’s Commission that they cannot take cases sumoto in the case of women of other states. She also accused Jethwani questionion her being an highly educated woman why she herself didn’t approach the Women’s Commission, but chosen to approach the police?
Her comments have created uproar in the social media questioning her intentions and behaviour indicating that Women’s Commission need not to react with regard to injustice done to all women. Netizens started questioning her silence during YCP government when number of YCP leaders involved in sexual assault of women.
They accused her of always protecting `YCP criminals’ always, resorting to fake cases against TDP social media activists, but hardly bothered about protection and dignity of women. They recalled that she kept postings in social media abusing chief minister Chandrababu Naidu and when TDP social media activists get angry, she makes complaints against them.
