AP To set Up India’s First Quantum computing village

The Andhra Pradesh government on Tuesday held a high-level meeting under the auspices of the Real-Time Governance Society (RTGS) at the state secretariat

The Government of Andhra Pradesh is moving ahead to set up India’s first quantum computing village. The state government has already announced that the 50-acre land in Amaravati will be used as a major hub for quantum computing research and collaboration.

At an high-level meeting held by the Real- Time Governance Society (RTGS), it was focused on planning, system development and technical infrastructure for the ambitious project. With this meeting, Andhra Pradesh will play a leading role in quantum technology for India and Amaravati will be the epicenter of the future quantum computing revolution.

Representatives from IBM, TCS and L&T participated in detailed discussions at the meeting. The iconic building design to be built by L&T, the advanced quantum systems offered by IBM and the expansion opportunities of this system in the coming decades were discussed.

IT and RTGS Secretary K. Bhaskar mentioned that the Quantum Computing Village will have a landmark iconic building designed by IBM. He urged institutions and companies to utilize advanced quantum computing resources. It will also have a dedicated on-site data center to support high-performance computing needs.

While the primary host system will be set up by IBM Quantum System, IBM and TCS will jointly finalize the infrastructure specifications. “This Quantum Village will transform into a world-class system in India and will be the foundation for the future of computing,” Bhaskar said.

SIAM Secretary Pradyumna said that SIAM has directed the officials to expedite the progress of the project and work towards its expeditious implementation. Patrick Guman from IBM Quantum, USA, gave a presentation on IBM Quantum System Two. Technical and infrastructure requirements were also discussed with L&T and state representatives.

L&T Mindtree Research Head and Vice President Indrajit Mitra, L&T Chief Architect Vijayan, AP Cluster CFO G. Ramakrishna, L&T Head – Academics C.V. Sridhar, IBM Quantum Head L. Venkata Subramaniam, COIN and India Strategic Initiative etc. participated in the event.
