Maverick director Ram Gopal Varma, whose name is synonymous with controversies, is likely to face arrest for his misdeeds during the YSR Congress party’s regime.
It is a known fact that RGV has landed in legal trouble for allegedly posting slanderous content related to Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders, including Andhra Pradesh current chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, his son Nara Lokesh and daughter-in-law Brahmani on social media. He also posted morphed images of Janasena president Pawan Kalyan as well several times in the last five years
As a consequence, a police case was filed in Prakasam district following a complaint lodged by TDP Manadal secretary Ramalingam under the provisions of the Information Technology (IT) Act.
RGV tried to secure himself by approaching the High Court to quash the petition filed on him. Unfortunately, the court didn’t entertain him and refused to grant him relief. He even tried to get anticipatory bail to shield himself from this case. However, there is no respite as the court didn’t grant him bail.
Meanwhile, the Prakasam police served him notices to attend for investigation pertaining to this case. But, Varma has been evading the appearance before the police citing lame reasons. He sought time to attend the enquiry last week.
Today morning, a posse of police personnel from Prakasam reached RGV’s residence in Hyderabad as he was due to attend the enquiry. In the event of his denial to attend enquiry, the police might arrest RGV and bring him to Prakasam for further course of action.
It is well known that the NDA government in Andhra Pradesh has been cracking down without any lenience over derogatory and abusive posts on social media. Already, several followers of YSRCP have been arrested in connection with a targeted campaign against the TDP leaders and their families.
