The Andhra Pradesh government will be issuing an ordinance to extend Vote on Account budget for another four months. The state cabinet has adopted an online resolution seeking the approval of the Governor to issue an ordinance. The ordinance needed as the vote on account budget approved by the earlier government for the period of three months in the wake of general elections comes to an end on Wednesday.
Though last week assembly was in session and it was expected the government may introduce a vote on account budget in the session, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu was confined to presenting white papers on the mischievous regime of YCP.
He preferred to vote on the account budget for another period of four months as he needed more time to formulate measures to streamline the economy, which was disturbed very badly during the previous government.
According to government sources, the vote on account budget will be issued to approve the demands and grants of 40 departments. There is a possibility of budget allocation for some emergency departments including construction of Anna canteens and repair of roads.
Officials have estimated that Rs. 1100 crores will be spent on road repairs in AP. The government, which is preparing to open Anna canteens from August 15, has made allocations for it in the vote on account budget. It seems that matching grants have also been allocated for key central schemes.
For the first time in the history of the state, the government preferred to vote on the account budget twice in a financial year. The government is expecting to take another two months to get clarity on the financial situation and is likely to present a full scale budget some time in the month of October, 2024.
Meanwhile, the YCP is alleging that the vote on account budget is being extended to delay the implementation of Super Six promises made by the TDP alliance before the elections.
