AP Leaders Silent Over End Of Hyderabad As Joint Capital

Friday, November 22, 2024

As per the bifurcation legislation, Hyderabad is seized to remain as joint capital of two Telugu states, as the 10-year period completes by the mid-night of June 1. Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has already instructed officials to take up measures to take possession of all the buildings, which are under occupation of Andhra Pradesh government in Hyderabad.

Though most issues related to bifurcation are still to be settled, particularly division of combined properties is still pending, Andhra Pradesh state government is keeping silent on the issue of joint capital. Even major political parties in Andhra Pradesh are also ignoring this aspect.

Still the division of employees between the two governments is not completed fully. According to some independent sources, properties worth Rs 1.34 lakh crores to be bifurcated between two states. More importantly several combined properties existed in Hyderabad to be bifurcated.

The Government of India, which has the responsibility of resolving bifurcation issues is not bothering to fulfil its task, but leaving to the fate of two states. AP Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy, though having cordial relations with the former Telangana government headed by K Chandrasekhar Rao, never attempted to resolve pending issues.

Surprisingly, TDP also maintained silence on this crucial issue. No leader making noise stressing the need for resolving pending issues before the Telangana government took possession of all buildings in Hyderabad from AP Government.

With just one day left for Hyderabad to remain as common capital for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh as per Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, only few non-political personalities are making a renewed demand to continue Hyderabad as common capital. “All political parties in Andhra Pradesh should immediately raise the issue of continuing Hyderabad as common capital of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh beyond 10 years period,” former CBI Joint Director VV Lakshmi Narayana said on X.

Andhra Pradesh Congress vice-president Kolanukonda Shivaji had also demanded that Hyderabad should be continued as common capital for another 10 years. Since the parties ruling the State in the last 10 years failed to build a proper capital for Andhra Pradesh, the status of Hyderabad as the joint capital of the two States should be extended for 10 more years, he added.

Former Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Chairman YV Subba Reddy on February 16 reportedly sought an extension of Hyderabad’s status as the shared capital of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana till the former’s executive capital shifts to Visakhapatnam from Amaravati.
