The AP High Court has expressed its anger over the inappropriate comments made by Guntur City Mayor Kavati Manohar Naidu against Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan and Minister Nara Lokesh. Can he use such language while holding a responsible position as the first citizen of the city?, the bench asked.
TDP State Executive Secretary Kanaparthi Srinivasa Rao filed a complaint at the Arundalpet police station alleging that Kavati Manohar Naidu had made inappropriate comments against the alliance leaders. The police have registered a case in this regard. However, Mayor Manohar has approached the High Court seeking quashing of the FIR.
The bench, which took up the hearing on this occasion on Wednesday, was incensed over Manohar’s comments. During the hearing of the case, the High Court reprimanded Guntur City Mayor Kavati Manohar Naidu.
“What kind of language is this?. Do you attack family members and mothers with vulgar language?. Is this how the first citizen of the city speaks?. You should serve and get closer to the people, but not with vulgar language. You should not think of winning elections by using dirty language. Those who use vulgar language should be punished by any party”, it said.
“Political parties should criticize the policies and procedures of others. The vocabulary used by the mayor cannot be accepted in a democracy. The mayor of the city should be a role model for other citizens. Democracy is being misused,” the High Court expressed its anger at Manohar Naidu.
The High Court ordered Manohar Naidu’s lawyer to tell him to behave responsibly as a first citizen of the city. Since all the sections registered in the case are punishable within seven years, it ordered the police to serve notices to the petitioner under Section 41(A) of the CrPC.
It issued clear orders to serve notices to the accused and conduct an investigation under 35(3) of the BNSS Act. It also ordered a counter with full details to be filed. Later, the hearing of the case was adjourned for six weeks.
When Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu was arrested during the YCP regime, the alliance leaders held a protest in the Arundalpet area of Guntur. However, YSRCP leader Manohar Naidu reached there and created a commotion. He grabbed a lathi from the police and rushed at the protesting people. He tried to attack the activists by cursing Chandrababu, Pawan, and Lokesh.
Even though the TDP and Jana Sena leaders complained about this at the time, the police ignored them. No action was taken. After TDP leader Kanaparthi Srinivasa Rao filed a complaint with the Arundalpet police, a case was registered against Manohar Naidu and several YSRCP leaders.
