AMARAVATI: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Tuesday granted interim relief to YSRCP leader Sajjala Bhargav Reddy in cases filed over alleged objectionable social media posts targeting political leaders Chandrababu, Pawan Kalyan, and Nara Lokesh. Bhargav Reddy had moved the court with a quash petition seeking dismissal of the cases.
Representing Bhargav Reddy, senior advocate and YSRCP leader Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy argued that the cases were not maintainable as the individuals allegedly defamed had not filed complaints. He further contended that third-party complaints were registered and non-bailable sections were invoked instead of relevant provisions under the IT Act.
The court directed the police to issue notices as per Section 35(3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure and adjourned the hearing to the first week of February. It also extended its previous order restraining action against Bhargav Reddy until the next hearing.
