The High Court of Andhra Pradesh has issued a stay on the construction of Jagananna Houses in the R 5 region of Amaravati. The court which considered the plea of the Amaravati farmers sent the legal stay notices to the AP Government.

The Chief Minister of AP, Jaganmohan Reddy has laid the foundation stone for as many as 50,000 houses for the underprivileged voters of the NTR and Guntur district in the R5 zone and the construction also began. Hurt farmers of Amaravati who gave away their fertile lands for the construction of the capital approached the High Court and the Bench consisting of Justice DVSS Somayajulu, Justice Manavendranath, and Justice Ravinath Trihari issued a stay after the hearing. Even though the HC gave permission to construct the houses in the past based on the Supreme Court’s judgment, the fresh stay will stop the construction of houses as of now.

The AP Government has allotted 1400 acres of land in the R5 Zone and already started getting the supplies. Now that the stay is in action, one has to wait and see what would Jagan and his Government do in this regard. As of now, farmers are happy with the stay and they are hoping to completely halt the construction and would rather use the lands for the capital infrastructure.
