The tragic stampedes that resulted in the deaths of many people in Kandukur and Guntur finally woke the AP Government as it passed a new mandate for Public Meetings. The Home Ministry Department in its new GO directed the local collectors to impose a strict ban on any public meetings, especially on narrow roads.
Along with the TDP cadre, a lot of negativity has been imposed on the ruling party for not taking measures to protect people during public meetings. The AP government which was already suffering from anti-incumbency is not in the mood to risk its reputation. It asked all the politicians and celebrities not to conduct any public meetings on the main roads of cities, municipalities, and panchayats at any cost. Instead, the AP govt advised them to prefer open grounds that can accommodate more people. This is a huge blow for the opposition parties TDP and Janasena which are planning to conduct a lot of public events and road shows in the upcoming months.
The only relaxation in this new rule is only selective rallies and small-sized events shall be given permission from the government officials after scrutinizing the purpose of the event. Needless to say the ruling party shall use all its power to suppress the meetings of its rivals by utilizing this new rule and shall only permit its own YSRCP meetings
