AP Govt approaches Supreme Court on Bifurcation Act

Wednesday, November 13, 2024

The government of Andhra Pradesh sought the help of the Supreme Court of India regarding its intervention in the Andhra Pradesh-Telangana Bifurcation and Reorganization Act 2014. The AP state wants to get all its dew funds and properties in this regard.

United Andhra Pradesh got bifurcated into Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and most of the assets were in Hyderabad. Post the bifurcation, neither the CBN lead TDP Government nor the present YSRCP Government pressured Telangana to give AP’s share in the distribution of the assets. Finally, the AP government’s official advocate filed a petition to the Supreme Court to solve the issue and implement the bifurcation act. According to Schedule-9 and 10 enlisted in the Act, AP has to get a due share of about 1.43 lakh crores worth of money and properties which were still in Hyderabad. Its been eight years since the bifurcation but neither the Telangana Govt nor the Union Government of India helped AP in this regard.

The AP Government made both the Modi Government and KCR’s Sarkar the respondents on this petition. After the hearing, the Apex Court of India directed both governments to file their counters.
