The Andhra Pradesh government has taken a key initiative to facilitate setting up of Quantum Valley in the Amaravati Capital region, first of its kind in the country. This is expected to go a long way in making Amaravati as a major destination in the field of Information Technology (IT). The government has given the green signal to set up ‘Amaravati Quantum Valley’ in partnership with world-renowned technology company IBM.
The state IT and Electronics Department issued key orders to this effect on Monday. With this project, the seeds of cutting-edge technology will be sown in the capital region. According to these orders issued by IT Secretary Katanneni Bhaskar, the ‘Amaravati Quantum Computing Center’ (AQCC) will be set up in an area of 50 acres in Amaravati.
IBM will play a key role in this prestigious project. IBM has come forward to set up a 5K gate quantum computer in this center along with a 133-bit system free of cost. Quantum Valley will be set up as a public sector undertaking (PSE) by AQCC. Quantum Valley will provide services to research, universities, startups and industries.
IBM will set up a 133-qubit, 5K gate quantum computer in 2,000 square feet. The GO states that it will provide a modern cooling system and uninterrupted power for this. The rent has been fixed at Rs. 30 per square foot.
However, IBM will provide 365 hours of free computing time per year to the government for four years for educational purposes. Also, another quantum computer will be set up by AI on Q from Bangalore at a cost of Rs. 6 crore on the Wits University campus. IBM has agreed to the proposals made by the government regarding this project.
According to this, it will provide free internet services to government offices and educational institutions in the state for four years for 365 hours per year. Officials believe that the establishment of this Quantum Valley will provide a new direction for the information and technology sectors in the capital.
Amaravati Quantum Valley will put the capital on the international IT map. This project is likely to attract the attention of global companies. There is no way that foreign investments will not come through this.
If the Amaravati Quantum Valley project is successful, Andhra Pradesh will emerge as a tech hub. It will bring revolutionary change to the state. In the eyes of the government, this is not just an IT project, but a strong foundation for the future of the state.
