AP Congress President Sharmila Criticizes YS Jagan Over Delhi Protests

Monday, September 16, 2024
AP Congress President Sharmila has strongly criticized her brother, YSRCP President Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. Speaking to the media on Tuesday, she questioned the motives behind Jagan’s recent protest actions.
“What happened in Vinukonda was not a political murder. Why is Jagan going to Delhi and staging dharnas?” Sharmila asked. She alleged that these protests are merely a tactic to maintain political visibility and to avoid responsibilities in the Assembly. She pointed out that during Jagan’s tenure, he sought special category status, and raised issues like Polavaram, the Visakhapatnam steel plant, and the Kadapa steel plant. Sharmila questioned why he did not address these issues directly in Delhi rather than through protests.
She also criticized the YSRCP for portraying every issue as a national concern. Sharmila highlighted the ongoing difficulties faced by the people of Andhra Pradesh due to heavy rains and floods, arguing that Jagan should focus on these pressing local issues. She emphasized the need for Jagan to participate in Assembly discussions, particularly concerning the potential repeal of the Land Titling Act, and questioned his absence from such debates.
Sharmila further commented on the Vinukonda murder case, noting that Rasheed, the victim, had reportedly identified the alleged murderer as a YSRCP member. She indicated that there had been previous conflicts between the two within the YSRCP, which included legal cases and confrontations. She claimed that efforts were made by local YSRCP leaders to mediate and reconcile the individuals involved.
