AP Assembly Begins Nov 11: Will YSRCP Attend This Time?

Sunday, December 22, 2024

The Andhra Pradesh Assembly sessions are set to begin on November 11, marking the third session since the coalition government took office. In the recent Assembly elections, YSRCP faced a major setback, securing only 11 seats, while the coalition achieved a record-breaking victory. During the first session, YSRCP leader and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, along with his MLAs, took the oath and subsequently left the Assembly.

YSRCP boycotted the second session, citing the government’s refusal to recognize Jagan as the Leader of the Opposition. Party members abstained, stating that their absence was in protest of the denial of official opposition status.

As the upcoming session approaches, it remains unclear whether YSRCP will attend. Party leader Y.S. Jagan has recently spoken on the matter, accusing the government of intentionally denying the opposition status out of concern that YSRCP would raise public issues in the Assembly. Jagan emphasized that addressing such issues requires allowing the opposition leader a platform in the Assembly. Given the circumstances, he confirmed that YSRCP members would not attend the sessions. However, he assured that YSRCP will confront the government and highlight public concerns through the media during the session.
