Andhra Pradesh Fake Liquor Row: CM Chandrababu Naidu Orders Strict Action

Tuesday, December 9, 2025
A political Streit has arisen in Andhra Pradesh related to the distribution of fake liquor in the state. The YSR Congress Party, headed by Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, has claimed that certain individuals are selling fake liquor to shopowners in the state, which has immediately led to a reaction from the government. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has taken a hard-line approach on the matter, stating that for anyone who sold counterfeit products, whether a minister or an official, no one would be spared.

At a recent meeting with senior officials, Naidu expressed his displeasure with the conduct of the YSRCP, accusing them of false propaganda to instill fear in others. He asserted that remarks made by YSRCP leaders about the sale of illicit liquor and the deaths from consuming such substances were spam and that their goal was to “cause confusion” while ignoring the problems they created.

Naidu has ordered an in-depth investigation into the deaths allegedly caused by fake liquor, instructing officials to uncover the facts and present the truth. He emphasized that strict action must be taken against anyone trying to exploit this issue for political advantage by spreading unfounded rumors. The Chief Minister also urged his ministers to counter the political conspiracies and false narratives pushed by YSRCP leaders effectively.

On the subject of spurious liquor, Naidu reaffirmed his zero-tolerance. He made it clear that tough action would be taken against those involved in manufacturing and selling illicit alcohol since it presents a very high risk to public health. In addition, he reminded the authorities that since the current ruling alliance took power 15 months ago, they have successfully addressed the illegal supply of non-duty paid liquor from surrounding states. Naidu urged further efforts to make sure that spurious liquor is eliminated from Andhra Pradesh.

The Chief Minister has also given clear-cut directions to make sure that there is no illegal liquor manufacturing units or people connected with them in the state. He highlighted the necessity for coordination between the Enforcement and Excise police agencies to combat the issue in a proper way.

While Naidu has asked for immediate action on the illegal liquor trade, he has also cautioned officials against becoming complacent about the spread of misinformation. Naidu called out the YSRCP for alleging that one out of three bottles of liquor was fake or that counterfeit liquor was killing people. Naidu has instructed his ministers to take on these fabricated lies squarely and make sure that the political conspiracies being plotted by the YSRCP are shaken to their roots.
