Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh government, under Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, has approved a Universal Health Policy that will provide free medical treatment of up to ₹25 lakh per year for every family in the state. The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister on Thursday.
The scheme, to be implemented under the Ayushman Bharat–NTR Arogya Seva initiative, is expected to benefit around 1.63 crore eligible families. Officials said the policy aims to prevent poor and middle-class households from falling into debt during medical emergencies.
A new Pre-Authorization Management system will be introduced to ensure approvals for treatments within six hours. Free medical care will be available in 2,493 empanelled hospitals across the state, covering 3,257 procedures under a hybrid model.
Under the new framework, claims up to ₹2.5 lakh will be handled by insurance companies, while the state government, through the NTR Arogya Seva Trust, will bear expenses ranging from ₹2.5 lakh to ₹25 lakh.
