Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu once again gave top priority in the appointment of Market Committee chairmen. For the first time a large number of BCs and women were given place in these nominations. In two phases, 85 market committee chairmen were appointed, and 34 percent of the chairman posts went to BCs.
Women were appointed as chairmen in 40 percent of the committees. Of the filled posts, TDP got 68, Jana Sena got 14, and BJP got 3. The coalition government gave top priority to BCs in the agricultural market committee chairmen appointments. Women were also given high priority.
The government, which appointed chairmen and governing bodies to 47 committees in the first phase, released the list of chairmen of 38 committees in the second phase on Friday. Of these, Telugu Desam got 31, Jana Sena 6, and BJP 1. A total of 85 nominated positions in market committees were filled in the two phases.
The remaining market committees will soon be appointed as chairman. Out of the total chairman posts, 29 have been filled for BCs. This means that more than 34 percent of the market committee chairman posts filled so far have been filled by them.
SCs have been given representation in 12 and STs in 4 positions. In the two phases of lists, a total of 34 chairman posts have been filled by women. This means that 40 percent have been reserved for women. Out of a total of 218 market committees in the state, 85 have been filled in two phases. Governing bodies are yet to be appointed for 133 committees.
Seshu Kumar, who was appointed as the chairman of the Narsipatnam Market Committee in Anakapalle district, died while undergoing treatment in the hospital. The party high command, recognizing his services to the party for over six years, appointed him as the chairman. He fell into a coma due to illness and passed away before taking charge. With this, chairman had to be appointed for a total of 134 committees.
