Amaravati Roads `Missing’… CRDA Needs Rs 2,000 Cr Immediately

Friday, November 15, 2024

Amaravati, the capital of the state, which was severely neglected under the YSRCP regime, is getting a new facelift soon after winning the TDP and its alliance parties in the recent polls. As Amaravati’s architect N. Chandrababu Naidu is becoming the Chief Minister, CRDA has started work on war-foot.

In view of the fact that the government is giving first priority to the outline of the capital structure of Amaravati, CRDA officials are focusing on fund collection. Officials who were moving in Amaravati region for the last two to three days to give a face-filt for the area before starting the first Assembly session of the new government, are surprised to find missing of several roads laid during previous TDP regime.

It was found that the roads leading from the judicial buildings to VIT have completely disappeared and three roads in the vicinity of Uddandrayunipalem and Lingayapalem are missing. The pipelines laid earlier are not visible near the villages of Ainavolu, Velagapudi and Thullur. CRDA officials are now worried about the non-appearance of real roads.

CRDA officials estimated that they urgently required Rs 2,000 crore  for jungle clearance and made the roads and under-construction buildings visible. Though they are not clear how to mobilize those funds or will the new government provide them as emergency grants, for the time being they are taking up immediate works from the development funds.

The roads laid in the capital area were dug up in the last  five years. The gravel was moved for its own needs and other projects. Farmers have also complained that some YCP public representatives looted those resources. In addition, iron, sand, other wiring material and pipes were all moved out.

The police caught and arrested the accused who were transporting iron from here. Officials state that eight roads out of the previously laid roads have to be constructed again in order to get the capital shape lines. In some places the roads were dug up to four feet. The material was used to build roads elsewhere.

The CRDA officials have decided while conducting a probe into these lapses on one hand, they also want to carry out works on the other hand. In addition to this, it is estimated that jungle clearance will cost more than Rs.10 crores. It was concluded that Rs.350 crores would be spent on temporary works and minimum facilities at the rate of Rs.1 lakh per acre. It is known that it has been decided that the cost of building works, facilities, street lights and fresh water pipelines will be up to Rs.400 crores.
