Amaravati Development Reboot: PM Modi To Inaugurate Works

Wednesday, April 2, 2025

After years of postponement, the much-awaited Amaravati development is finally going to take off. With the key groundwork done, such as fund sanction and tender approvals, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be invited to re-launch the project. Modi, who had originally laid the foundation stone for Amaravati, had seen the development of the capital city stall under the earlier YSRCP government. Now, with increased determination and financial support, the ambitious capital venture is once again underway.

The renaissance of Amaravati is largely due to the firm backing of Prime Minister Modi. Ten years of YSRCP rule have left Andhra Pradesh struggling with a massive debt of more than ₹10 lakh crore, rendering big-ticket projects economically unviable. But Modi has intervened, and almost ₹50,000 crore of financial assistance has been provided through different funding mechanisms. This timely intervention has given new life to the development of the capital.

Since its inception, PM Modi has been a firm supporter of Amaravati’s vision. Between 2014 and 2019, the central government extended full cooperation to the state. While there were concerns about funding delays, the original plan was to release financial assistance in phases as the project advanced. The Centre even facilitated funding from global institutions such as the World Bank. However, with the YSRCP assuming power, the project faced strong resistance, with the state government even sending official letters stating that Amaravati no longer required central support. Despite this, Modi’s administration remained committed to Amaravati’s long-term development.

Amaravati is envisioned as a modern, sustainable capital that will serve as a key economic and administrative hub for Andhra Pradesh. A properly developed capital city will not only improve infrastructure but will also generate employment and stimulate overall economic development. Nevertheless, its timely completion needs steadfast support from the central government. With PM Modi likely to officially revamp the works, Amaravati will now be ready for quick development, paving the way for its becoming a world-class capital city.
