Amaravati: 6 More Acres Allotted For Basavatarakam Hospital Expansion

Monday, December 8, 2025

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Hindupur MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna has again demonstrated his dedication to public service by reviving proposals for upgrading the Indo-American Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital to Amaravati. The world-class cancer care facility, established by the iconic actor Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, has been offering top-notch medical care to cancer patients, especially from poor families. In Balakrishna’s leadership, the hospital has emerged as a respected name in quality and affordable cancer treatment.

After the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, Balakrishna had a vision to take the life-saving services of the hospital to the new capital area. As part of this vision, he suggested establishing a branch of the Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital and a medical college in Amaravati. The suggestion was initially approved by the then TDP government, which set aside 15 acres of land for the project.

But once the YSR Congress Party took over in 2019, development at Amaravati crawled, and the hospital project encountered a series of setbacks. With infrastructure works delayed all over the capital city, Balakrishna was forced to suspend his grand plan.

But after the recent electoral victory of the TDP alliance, Balakrishna did not waste any time in placing the Amaravati project at the top of the agenda once again. Information is that he has officially approached the government, not just to go ahead with the construction of the hospital but also to open an attached medical college for the development of future health professionals. To be able to fit this new large picture, Balakrishna had asked for another 6 acres of land, in addition to the initial 15 acres provided.

In a key development, the state’s Cabinet Sub-Committee recently approved his request, granting the extra 6 acres and bringing the total land allocation for the Basavatarakam project to 21 acres. This decision paves the way for a world-class cancer treatment center and a premier medical college in Amaravati.

The Indo-American Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital has already earned nationwide acclaim for its compassionate care and affordable treatment, especially for low-income cancer patients. With this expansion, Balakrishna wants to establish not only a healthcare center but a center of excellence in oncology and medical education. There’s increasing hope that under his stewardship, the Amaravati branch and the new medical college will emerge as top institutions, providing high-quality healthcare to the people of Andhra Pradesh and beyond.
