TDP, Jana Sena and BJP corporators and leaders on Saturday handed over a notice to GVMC in-charge commissioner and district collector M.N. Harendhira Prasad for a no-confidence motion against Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) mayor and YCP leader Golagani Harivenkata Kumari. The notice, signed by 70 corporators, was given, demanding an immediate council meeting.
The collector assured that he would examine it and take further action. After the GVMC officials verify the details of the corporators who signed the no-confidence motion notice, notices will be issued to the corporators and ex-officio members for proof of strength. A council meeting will have to be convened to discuss the no-confidence motion anytime after 15 days of issuing the notice.
The alliance currently has a strength of 70 corporators and 11 ex-officio members. With this, the adoption of the no-confidence motion against the mayor is only a formality.
Jana Sena MLAs Vamsi Krishna Srinivas, Panchakarla Ramesh Babu, TDP district president Gandi Babji, State Urban Infrastructure Corporation Chairman Pila Govinda, TDP floor leader in GVMC Pila Srinivasa Rao, VMRDA Chairman Pranav Gopal and several corporators came to submit a no-confidence notice to the district collector.
It is known that six corporators from YSRCP joined the TDP recently. The law is in force that no-confidence motion against the mayor should be moved only after four years. With this, even though the coalition government came to power last year, no-confidence motion has not been moved so far.
However, the four-year term ended on March 18. In this context, the coalition leaders are making moves to secure the post of ‘Mayor’ of theGreater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation. In this context, they met the district collector and submitted the no-confidence motion.
The coalition leaders revealed that the corporation body has not cooperated so far and that the development work will be completed only if they come together. They said that they are moving forward with the aim of development in Visakhapatnam.
