Islamabad: Mufti Shah Mir, a human trafficker accused of aiding Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI in the abduction of former Indian Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav, was shot dead in Balochistan, according to national media reports.
Mir had survived two previous assassination attempts. On Friday night, unidentified gunmen on motorcycles opened fire on him outside a mosque in Turbat after prayers. He was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries during treatment, police confirmed.
Links to Terror and Illegal Activities
Mufti Shah Mir was a member of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) and was allegedly involved in arms smuggling and human trafficking. Reports suggest he had close links with multiple terror groups in Pakistan and frequently visited terror camps, facilitating militant infiltration into Indian territory.
His killing comes days after two other JUI members were shot dead in Khuzdar.
Kulbhushan Jadhav Case
Kulbhushan Jadhav, a former Indian Navy officer, retired and later established a business in Chabahar, Iran. In 2016, Pakistani agents allegedly abducted him from Iran before claiming he was arrested in Balochistan for espionage. In April 2017, a Pakistani military court sentenced him to death, prompting strong protests from India, which accused Pakistan of unlawfully kidnapping him. The case is currently under review at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
