In Telangana, 100 percent of the seats in engineering and other professional courses will now be reserved for Telangana students. After the bifurcation of the state, students from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh used to compete for 15 percent of the unreserved seats until last year.

In the wake of the completion of ten years of the bifurcation of the state as per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, the government has issued orders changing the guidelines related to admissions in professional education courses. From now on, only Telangana students will get admissions in professional courses in the state.

According to the latest government orders, 85 percent of the seats in engineering, pharmacy, architecture, Pharma, business administration, legal education, education, and physical education courses have been allocated to Telangana students and 15 percent seats have been allocated under the unreserved quota.

Meanwhile, several changes have been made in the allocation of 15 percent unreserved quota seats. Education Secretary Yogita Rana issued guidelines identifying four categories of people as eligible for these seats. In this quota, Telangana locals, as well as those who have been residing in Telangana for 10 years and those who have studied in other states are also eligible.

Also, seats will be allotted to the children and spouses of those working in central and state government, public sector organizations and educational institutions.

The government has appointed a committee headed by the Chairman of the Higher Education Council, Professor Balakrishna Reddy, to study the formulation of procedures to determine local and non-local for admission to engineering and other higher education courses in the state from the next academic year (2025-26).

The government has issued orders after examining the recommendations of this committee. For admission to vocational courses in the state, one must have studied Telangana for four years from class 9 to class 12. Or if one has studied four years in Telangana out of seven years of education, one will get seats under the local quota.
