Actress Kasturi, who made controversial comments against Telugu women, was arrested by the Tamil Nadu State Police in Hyderabad on Saturday. She was absconding since November 3rd and was taken to Chennai in a special vehicle by the Tamil Nadu Police.
Kasturi, who participated in a protest organized in Chennai under the auspices of Hindu Makkal Katchi, made objectionable comments against Telugus. Telugu organizations and celebrities expressed anger over this. She criticized that Telugus who came to serve the harem women of a king 300 years ago are now calling themselves Tamils.
She expressed anger at the Dravidian ideology advocates who say that Brahmins who came here once are not Tamils. Kasturi criticized that a campaign is being conducted against Brahmins in Tamil Nadu because they are telling them not to loot other people’s properties, not to be infatuated with other people’s wives, and not to have more than one wife.
Kasturi’s comments received widespread criticism and Telugu organizations filed a complaint with the police. The police who registered the case found her house in Poes Garden in Chennai locked when they went there. With that, Kasturi approached the Madras High Court for anticipatory bail. But, the said High Court refused to grant her bail.
Therefore, she switched off her phone and hid in Hyderabad to avoid being caught by the police. With this, senior Chennai police officials who formed special teams are searching for Kasturi. In this process, the Chennai police came to know that Kasturi was in Hyderabad and arrested her.
Born in Chennai, which was once called Madras, Kasturi did modeling during her high school days. Kasturi got film opportunities after winning the Miss Madras title in 1992. She made her debut in the same year.
She scored good marks by acting opposite star hero Prabhu Ganesan. After that, Kasturi, who played a good role as Kamal Haasan’s daughter in Shankar’s film Bharathiyudu, played a key role in the film Annamayya starring Nagarjuna.
