Tuesday, December 24, 2024
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has filed a case against senior IPS officer N. Sanjay, accusing him of misusing public funds during his tenure as Director General of the Fire Services and head of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) under the previous government. The case is based on a report from the Vigilance and Enforcement Department, which led the state government to initiate an ACB investigation. Following approval from the Chief Secretary under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, the case was registered.
Alleged Misuse of Over ₹2 Crore
The charges against Sanjay include the misappropriation of funds exceeding ₹2 crore. It is alleged that he awarded contracts for the development, management, and maintenance of the Agni-NOC website and mobile app, as well as for the supply of 150 tablets, to Southika Technologies and Infra, despite no actual work being done. ₹59.93 lakh was reportedly paid to the company for the non-existent services. Additionally, Sanjay allegedly awarded a contract to Krithyapp Technologies for organizing awareness sessions on the SC/ST Atrocities Act, which were meant to be conducted by CID officers. Despite the sessions not being held, ₹1.19 crore was paid to Krithyapp Technologies.
The Vigilance and Enforcement Department’s investigation revealed that these actions resulted in an estimated ₹2 crore loss to the state treasury. In response, the government had already suspended Sanjay, and now the ACB has formally registered the case.
Investigation into Fund Distribution
The ACB is set to investigate the flow of funds from Southika Technologies and Krithyapp Technologies, focusing on identifying who withdrew the funds and where the money ultimately went. It was also discovered that both companies shared the same address, and Krithyapp Technologies was identified as a shell company. The ACB will probe who established these companies and how the funds were misappropriated.
