The Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) has announced a historic transition in the name of the Visakhapatnam International Cricket Stadium. The stadium, previously known as Dr. YSR ACA-VDCA International Cricket Stadium, will continue to be identifiable by the ACA-VDCA International Cricket Stadium.
The move is also part of a bigger process initiated by the coalition government to reverse politically motivated name changes awarded during previous regimes. Over the years, some public institutions in Andhra Pradesh were named after YSR, even in cases where there was no direct connection. The government is now turning its attention towards bringing neutrality to such institutions with the first instance being the rechristening of the stadium.
