Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan has made thought-provoking remarks on the impact of nepotism and commercialism in the Indian film industry. In a candid interaction, the 49-year-old actor revealed how the failure of his films led to professional setbacks, including being ignored by producers who once actively sought him out.
Bachchan stated that the industry operates on a purely business-oriented model, where casting decisions are primarily based on the financial viability of actors. “The film industry is entirely driven by commerce. Whether an actor can bring in profits is the key factor. If not, they simply don’t get the job,” he explained.
Addressing the influence of nepotism, Abhishek acknowledged that he belonged to a privileged background but asserted that such connections do not guarantee sustained success. “I’ve lost countless film offers when my movies didn’t perform well. Many of my friends—children of renowned actors—never got the recognition or the right opportunities. If you’re getting a chance, there’s always a practical reason behind it,” he said.
Sharing a personal episode, the actor recounted how producers who once contacted him regularly stopped responding when his films underperformed. “After six months of back-to-back flops, those calls stopped. They didn’t even return my calls. That’s the nature of the world—we must not take it personally,” he remarked.
Despite being associated with successful film franchises, Abhishek said he faced turbulent phases due to inconsistent box office results. His comments have sparked discussions, with many noting that they reflect the stark realities of stardom and survival in the film industry.
