Fulfilling one of its major “Super Six” promises, the Andhra Pradesh coalition government, under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, is all set to launch the much-anticipated ‘Thalliki Vandanam’ scheme on June 12, coinciding with the reopening of schools across the state.
As part of this welfare initiative, the government will credit depositing ₹15,000 per student into the mother’s bank account — a move aimed at reducing the financial burden on families and empowering women as key stakeholders in their children’s education.
CM Chandrababu confirmed that the scheme will benefit over 67.27 lakh school-going children, with a total fund allocation of ₹8,745 crore. This massive direct benefit transfer ensures transparency and timely financial support at the beginning of the academic year.
Unlike the previous administration, which extended support to only one child per family, the new policy ensures every eligible student within a household receives the full ₹15,000 grant. This inclusive approach means around 93% of the students across Andhra Pradesh will benefit from the scheme, with the only exceptions being students enrolled in premium private institutions.
The scheme is designed not just as a welfare measure but as a strategic investment in the future of Andhra Pradesh, promoting education while honoring the role of mothers. Interestingly, the aid will be extended regardless of political affiliation — children of families aligned with any party, including the opposition, will be covered.
