If the ongoing rumours in Delhi political circles are to be believed, Telangana BJP head and Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy is likely to be elevated as the President of BJP of India very soon as the tenure of incumbent president JP Nadda will end shortly. Reportedly, Kishan Reddy is the forerunner for the coveted post and may be announced early next year.
Kishan Reddy is one of the old guards of Bharatiya Janata Party and has been a loyal supporter who rose through the ranks . He is a trusted lieutenant to both Modi and Amit Shah and also commands impressive track record with clean image in the eyes of the BJP top brass. Also, he has got the backing of the formidable RSS which calls shots in the internal affairs of BJP.
Reliable sources revealed that Kishan Reddy is among a few others who are in consideration for the top post. The BJP high command is said to be preferring a South Indian this time for the party president’s post in order to gain a strong foot hold down South in the coming years. So, Kishan Reddy will be the most significant choice for the BJP.
Kishan Reddy is presently the one of the most prominent BJP leaders down South. Even though he lost as MLA in 2018 assembly elections, Kishan Reddy later made made a strong comeback in his political career in the parliament elections in 2019 when he won as Secundrabad MP. He served as the state BJP president for several years and was once again given the opportunity in 2023. After his victory in 2024, Modi honoured him with a cabinet berth as a Union Minister for Coal.
Under Kishan Reddy, BJP performed extremely well in Telangana in 2024 when it won 8 MP seats out of 16. The BJP wants to wrest power in Telangana in 2028. So, the party high command is making all efforts in that direction. As JP Nadda’s tenure has already ended, the party is looking for a strong leader to replace him.
Recently, Nadda and Kishan Reddy met in Delhi and this has led to the speculation that there is chances for the announcement of new president very soon. An official confirmation will end the suspense on who will be the successor of Nadda. In the past, Telugu leaders like Venkaiah Naidu and B. Lakshman served as the presidents of BJP.
