The CBI has informed the Supreme Court that 125 petitions are under investigation in connection with former chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s disproportionate assets cases. It has been revealed that the court has examined 860 witnesses so far. A total of 15 special leave petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court, of which 12 are still pending.
The investigation affidavit shows that almost 80 percent of the petitions filed from the trial court to the Supreme Court are pending. Out of 86 discharge petitions filed in the trial court in 11 cases, all are pending. No final verdict has been issued in any of the discharge petitions.
The CBI’s lawyer informed the bench that the status details of the CBI and ED cases were filed on Thursday evening. The CBI and ED officials have submitted a report to the Supreme Court in the form of an affidavit on the delay in the investigation of Jagan’s cases. The investigation agencies explained the reasons for the delay in the investigation in the affidavit.
A bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Pankaj Mittal said that they will examine the copy of the report. Jagan’s lawyers have sought time to examine the status report. Deputy Speaker Raghuramakrishna Raju had earlier filed a petition seeking the speedy completion of the trial, saying that the trial of Jagan’s disproportionate assets cases is being delayed.
The petition stated that the cases should be transferred from Telangana to another state. Similarly, another petition was filed to cancel Jagan’s bail, otherwise the trial would be severely affected. The Supreme Court heard two petitions filed by Raghurama. The Supreme Court adjourned the next hearing to January 10, saying that it will give its verdict after examining the reports given by the CBI and ED.
The Supreme Court had earlier questioned the investigating agencies about the delay in the trial of Jagan’s cases. It ordered the investigating agencies to submit a report explaining the status of the cases during the hearing on 2nd of this month. Following the Supreme Court’s orders, the investigating agencies have filed a status report in the form of an affidavit with details of the petitions filed from the trial court to the Supreme Court and the pending cases in the Jagan disproportionate assets case.
