Supreme Court Upholds Telangana Group-1 Notification; Dismisses Plea For Mains Postponement

Wednesday, December 18, 2024

In a significant decision, the Supreme Court has provided relief to the state government by upholding the validity of the Group-1 notification and dismissing a petition seeking its cancellation and the postponement of the mains examination.

The controversy began when some candidates approached the High Court, alleging irregularities in the prelims examination, including 14 errors, and challenging the legality of the new notification. They also sought a stay on the mains examination. The High Court dismissed the plea, prompting the petitioners to escalate the matter to the Supreme Court.

A bench headed by Justice Narasimha delivered its verdict on Friday, clarifying that judicial intervention in examinations is unwarranted as it causes unnecessary delays in recruitment. The court further noted that since the petitioners did not qualify for the mains examination, there was no justification to postpone it.

With this ruling, the Supreme Court has cleared the way for the state government to proceed with the recruitment process. The Telangana State Public Service Commission (TGPSC) has already conducted the mains examination and is expected to release the results by February.
