Andhra Pradesh Sets Up Ex-Servicemen Corporation with ₹10 Crore Fund

Wednesday, December 18, 2024

The Andhra Pradesh alliance government has taken a significant step towards fulfilling its electoral promises by setting up an Ex-Servicemen Corporation in the state. With an initial corpus fund of ₹10 crore, the government has ensured the corporation has the necessary resources to begin operations, with provisions for more funding based on future needs. The orders were issued by Kumar Vishwajit, Principal Secretary of the Home Department. This newly established corporation will focus on sustainable development initiatives aimed at assisting ex-servicemen with their resettlement and rehabilitation, providing them with opportunities for stable livelihoods and reintegration into civilian life.

The newly formed Ex-Servicemen Corporation will not only focus on providing employment and income-generating opportunities for veterans but also take up initiatives to improve the welfare of those affected by their military service. This includes disabled soldiers, the widows of soldiers who lost their lives in combat, and the dependent families of fallen servicemen. The need for a dedicated corporation to support ex-servicemen has been a long-standing demand, aimed at addressing their unique challenges. In fact, the Ministry of Defence had earlier urged all states to establish similar corporations to ensure comprehensive support for former soldiers and their families.

While on his Yuvagalam padayatra, Nara Lokesh was approached by a group of ex-servicemen who urged him to establish a corporation focused on their welfare. In response, Lokesh quickly assured them that the TDP would create this corporation if they regained power. This promise was later incorporated into the party’s election manifesto. Following a cabinet meeting last month, approval was granted for the formation of the Ex-Servicemen Corporation, and official orders have now been issued. The detailed structure and operational framework of the corporation will be revealed soon. Ex-servicemen have expressed their gratitude for the Andhra Pradesh government’s proactive approach in making this initiative a reality.
