Probably for the first time in the state, the Andhra Pradesh state government has suspended three senior IPS officers, for the key role in the wrongful detention, torture and harassment case against Bollywood actress and model Kadambari Jethwani and her parents.
The three officers are known for their proximity with the former chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy and allegedly ruthlessly acted against the then opposition TDP activists foisting illegal cases, resorting to arrest and torture. They are former Intelligence Chief PSR Anjaneyulu, former Vijayawada Police Commissioner Kanti Rana Tata and former DCP of Vijayawada Vishal Gunni.
Soon after the formation of Chandrababu Naidu government three of them were transferred and kept without any posting. Besides this case there are several allegations of irregularities against them. Chief Secretary Nirab Kumar Prasad issued orders on Sunday evening on their suspension.
Jethwani, who had earlier submitted a complaint to the Vijayawada Police commissioner last week and also her statement was taken by the Enquiry Officer Sravanthi Roy, appointed by Police Commissioner to probe into this case, has formally filed her complaint with Ibrahimpatnam police station two days ago.
In her complaint, she specifically mentioned names of YCP leader K Vidyasagar, besides these three police officers. The case was formally registered on Friday and immediately the police department suspended former ACP Hanumantha Rao and former CI of Ibrahimpatnam police station Satyanarayana. The next day on Sunday, the government issued orders suspending three IPS officers.
Earlier, Vijayawada commissioner of police S V Rajasekhara Babu began the probe recently on the allegations leveled by the film actress Jetwani that she was illegally detained, arrested and tortured in a false case. He appointed the ACP K Sravanthi Roy as an enquiry officer to probe the case.
The actress also alleged that they were arrested and threatened only to force her to withdraw a case she registered against an industrialist in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Police Station. Moreover, the probe found that an FIR was booked against her in Ibrahimpatnam police station and on the next morning Vishal Gunni was sent with a team by air to Mumbai to arrest her, acting only on oral orders without any enquiry or following procedures.
The actress alleged that at the behest of IPS officers, she was arrested by Ibrahimpatnam police in February 2024. She alleged that she was detained in the VTPS Guest house in Ibrahimpatnam in the outskirts of Vijayawada and tortured. She was arrested on the basis of a false case booked by Ibrahimpatnam police on Jetwani that she had blackmailed YCP Vidya Sagar.
