According to the latest figures provided by Election Commission on its official app on Tuesday morning, phase 5 has recorded a turnout out 60.48% with West Bengal logging the highest (76.05%) polling, and Maharashtra the lowest (54.33%).
The overall turnout in these 49 constituencies in 2019 was 61.82%. The highlight of this phase was Baramulla Parliamentary Constituency in Jammu and Kashmir, which logged a polling percentage of 58.17, the highest turnout since 1967.
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said “The highly successful conduct of polls with impressive turnout in Srinagar and Baramulla gives the Election Commission the confidence to hold Assembly polls in J&K the earliest.”
In Phase 5 of the 7-phase Lok Sabha Elections, as many as 49 Parliament Constituencies across six states and two union territories voted today (May 20). Over 8.95 crore voters were registered to exercise their franchise in 94,000 polling stations set up by the election commission. Polling for 35 Assembly Constituencies of the Odisha Legislative Assembly also took place simultaneously.
The 8 States/UTs that went to polls in phase 5 today were Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. Till 4th phase, the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 has seen the voter turnout at polling stations of about 66.95%. Around 451 million people have already voted, during the first four phases of ongoing General Elections.
The fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra saw an approximate voter turnout of 54.33 per cent, which is 8.8 percent less than the 2019 election. 11 Lok Sabha constituencies went to polls in the fourth phase of the elections on May 13.
As per the ECI data, the state recorded a 61.9 per cent turnout in the fourth phase of the 2019 election. While the ECI has released the final turnout figures for the first three phases of the polls in the state, it has not shared the same for the fourth phase.
