At last with the intervention of AP High Court, AP police revealed number of criminal cases pending against former chief minister and TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu and his son, TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh. According to the communication sent by AP police to them, each one is facing as many as 23 cases. Most of the cases were foisted during YS Jagan Mohan Reddy regime only.
In a letter to the DGP on March 1, both of them asked to reveal details of pending cases against them, as they need to mention in their nomination papers for elections. Otherwise, their nominations are likely to be rejected. But the DGP kept silent without responding to their letters.
Then they approached the AP High Court. Even before the High Court government pleader tried to avoid giving details stating that it may not be possible for the DGP to collect such information.
A petition has been filed in the High Court seeking to provide details of cases against Chandrababu, Lokesh, Achchennaidu, former ministers Narayana, Ayyannapatra and Ramachandra Yadav. Senior advocate Dhammalapati Srinivas filed a petition on behalf of Chandrababu saying that despite writing a letter to the DGP on March 1, the details have not been given till today.
The High Court expressed its anger over the fact that the details of the cases were not given in the last hearing. Lawyers for the petitioners explained to the court that if the details are not mentioned, the nominations are likely to be rejected.
The government counsel also argued that how is it possible to give all this information and it will cause trouble to the DGP’s office. The counsel for the petitioners reminded that the details of the cases against Narsapur MP Raghuramakrishna Raju had been given by the DGP. After the judge questioned the difficulties in providing the details of the cases, government counsel agreed to give details.
Now, the TDP legal cell is examining these cases. Among 23 cases Chandrababu is facing, 8 cases are filed by AP CID.15 other cases were registered during his tour in the districts. It may be recalled that Chandrababu referring to numerous CBI and ED cases faced by chief minister Jagan, used to say in public meetings in his over four decades of political career, no case was filed against him.
There is one CID case against Lokesh.The remaining cases were registered during the Yuvagalam padayatra. Most of these cases were filed during the YSRCP government. There were no major cases against the two leaders in the past.
