In what may be called as a brilliant piece of news for Andhra Pradesh, the Central Government has given its nod to release additional funds to complete the mighty project of Polavaram Dam across Godavari river.
None other than the Minister of Jal Shakthi, Bishweswar Tudu in the Parliament stated that the Center has agreed to release funds worth Rs 12,911.15 crores of rupees after clearing the Department of Finance and Expenditure. The Union Minister declared this while answering a question shot by the YSRCP MP Vijaya Sai Reddy regarding the same. Tudu reminded that the AP CM Jaganmohan Reddy earlier wrote a letter to the Center to release Rs 17,000 rupees to complete the Polavaram but the cabinet after revising the data has decided to grant Rs 10,911.15 crores. It also considered the damages to the dam caused by the floods and added an additional 2,000 crores of rupees to complete it once and forever.
This is indeed a good thing for the AP State provided the dire situation where the Dam was in construction for almost a decade and got multiple halts. Despite the late grant, experts say that the Dam construction won’t be ended before the general elections to boost the completion of it by the ruling party. Oppositions however doubt that the funds released by the Center would be misused by YSRCP lead AP Government. Needless to say, this act of the BJP Government is making pacts with the AP people before the general elections to be in the good looks.
