Amaravati: Political turmoil escalated in Andhra Pradesh as YS Sharmila, the state unit chief of the Congress and sister of Jagan Mohan Reddy, the founder and chief minister of YSRCP, spent the night at her party office to evade potential house arrest. This development occurred just ahead of the Congress’ planned ‘Chalo Secretariat’ protest, which Sharmila Reddy was set to lead. A widely circulated video showed Sharmila sleeping on a mattress in her office in Vijayawada. The protest aimed to draw attention to the issues faced by unemployed youth and students under the leadership of Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Addressing the media at Andhra Ratna Bhavan on Wednesday, Sharmila criticized her brother, accusing him of neglecting these issues over the past five years. In response to the possibility of being placed under house arrest, Sharmila expressed her indignation, questioning the suppression of democratic rights. She highlighted the irony of being a woman forced to evade police and spend the night in her party office to avoid confinement.
