Amaravati: YS Sharmila, the founder of YSR Telangana Party, is set to visit Delhi on Wednesday to finalize the merger of her party with the Congress, according to sources. Following a party meeting chaired by Sharmila today, she announced that she and other leaders would meet with top Congress leadership, including AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, to make a “crucial” announcement in Delhi tomorrow.
The daughter of the late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, former Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, and the younger sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, Sharmila is expected to be granted a national-level position within the Congress. Moreover, sources indicate that she is likely to be appointed in charge of elections for Southern states after the merger of YSRTP with the Congress.
