Ongole: YS Sharmila, the president of the APCC, criticized the YSRCP government for its alleged neglect of the Gundlakamma project’s maintenance, which was constructed at a cost of Rs. 750 crore during Rajasekhar Reddy’s tenure. Sharmila claimed that the YSRCP government was allocating less than Rs. 1 crore annually for the project’s upkeep and emphasized that an expenditure of Rs. 10 crore was necessary to ensure the project’s viability. According to her, the project’s fate hinges on this financial commitment, as indicated by statements from SE.
Sharmila called for immediate repairs to address the current state of the project, highlighting the gate’s submersion in water as a symbol of the YSRCP’s operational shortcomings. She urged the government to take corrective action and expressed disappointment in the alleged lack of attention to the project. Additionally, Sharmila called out the previous TDP government, urging it to disclose its contributions to the project’s development. Furthermore, she criticized Irrigation Minister Ambati Rambabu, emphasizing the need for him to focus on substantive actions rather than symbolic gestures, such as Sankranthi dances.
