Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has posted a sensational tweet, marking the first time he has directly addressed concerns about electronic voting machines (EVMs). Previously, Jagan had never questioned the reliability of EVMs, but now he has called for the use of paper ballots, citing declining trust in the machines.
In his tweet, Jagan stated, “Justice should not only be done, but also be seen to be done. Democracy should not only be strong but also appear unequivocal. Paper ballots are used instead of EVMs in the electoral process in almost every developed democratic country around the world. We should also move in the same direction to maintain the true spirit of our democracy.”
Adding to the controversy, technology giant Elon Musk has claimed that EVMs can be hacked. Jagan’s tweet, coming at a time of growing debate over EVMs, has become a hot topic of discussion.
