Prabhas starrer Adipurush, which hit the screens this Friday amid massive expectations, has been receiving mixed reactions from critics and cinephiles alike. Many are vehemently criticizing director Om Raut for distorting the original story and presenting a self-styled version with VFX-heavy and cartoonish graphics which appeared to be a mockery of the epic saga. Many iconic scenes from Ramayana which deserve a perfect retelling didn’t make it to the final cut in the film. This surprised viewers who expected the film to be a modern-day Ramayana.
Reacting to these comments, Manoj Muntashir Shukla, the scriptwriter of Adipurush said that Adipurush is just loosely based on the epic Ramayana but it is not fully inspired by all of it. Speaking to a Hindi news channel, Shukla said they never said that Adipurush is a retake of the Ramayana. He then added that they took only a part of the popular ‘Yuddha Kanda’ from Ramayana as a reference and weaved a story that appeals to the current generation of moviegoers. He also said that had they promoted it extensively as a rehash of Ramayana, it could have given good mileage for the film ahead of its release. However, they never had such intention, he added.
Meanwhile, Adipurush is running with strong crowds in all areas on the second day after embarking on a sensational start at the box office. Despite numerous trolls and negative reviews, the film is holding well in the first weekend. It is likely to register strong numbers on day 2 and day 3 as well.
