Celebrated writer Paruchuri Gopala Krishna has praised *Court*, a small-budget Telugu film currently streaming on Netflix, for its impactful storytelling and strong screenplay. Directed by Ram Jagadish, the film features Harsh Roshan, Sridevi, and Priyadarshi in lead roles.
In his detailed review, Paruchuri stated that *Court* proves powerful cinema need not depend on big budgets. “The filmmakers have shown that even with limited resources, a compelling story and thoughtful direction can make a film successful,” he said.
The film, which blends elements of a crime thriller and courtroom drama, explores how the future of a promising young man is threatened by a legal case under the POCSO Act. Paruchuri noted that the screenplay carefully conceals a key detail — that the female lead is a minor — which adds depth to the narrative. “Had the character been above 18, the story would have taken a completely different course,” he observed.
He praised the character of Mangapathi, played by Shivaji, for representing the stark contrast between the rich and the poor, while also portraying the consequences of crossing legal boundaries involving minors. “Touching a minor is a criminal offense. The film rightly emphasizes this,” he remarked.
Paruchuri highlighted the courtroom arguments presented by Priyadarshi’s character, especially the twist where the case is reopened and eventually influenced by the testimony of the girl in a special court setting. “The scene where the judge clears the room before hearing the minor’s statement was striking and rare in Indian cinema,” he said.
While applauding the film’s climax, Paruchuri added that a closing scene showing the lead characters succeeding in life and marrying would have offered viewers greater emotional closure.
Court has received appreciation for its realistic portrayal of legal proceedings and its socially relevant message, further reinforcing the potential of content-driven regional cinema.
