Mega Prince Varun Tej is in quest for the elusive box office success after scoring a string of debacles with Ghani, Gandeevadhari Arjuna and Operation Valentine. He is now coming up with an ambitious period drama titled Matka, which set in the vintage backdrop around Vishakapatnam.
The film, based on gambling, is said to be inspired by true events on the infamous personality Ratan Khatri, who is known as the father of gambling in India. Famous with ‘Matka King’ nickname, Khatri is credited with popularising betting racket all over the country after he moved from Sindhi to Mumbai during the 1960s.
As shooting formalities nears completion with post-production happening simultaneously, the makers of Matka have announced the film’s release date. The movie will hit theaters on November 14th, just ahead of Karthika Purnima, allowing it to capitalize on a long weekend.
In the new poster, Varun Tej appears in a retro avatar in a suit, as he walks on the stairs with a cigarette in his mouth. He looks very confident in a flamboyant manner.
Karuna Kumar, who directed an intense drama Palasa 1970, is the director for this film. Meenakshii Chaudhary is the female lead and Nora Fatehi is playing an important role in Matka. GV Prakash is rendering the soundtrack and Vyra Entertainment banner is bankrolling the film in collaboration with SRT Entertainments.
