Civil Supplies Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy announced that the distribution of fine rice (sanna biyyam) to ration card holders is being started on the occasion of Ugadi festival. The minister wrote an open letter to the people of the state to this effect. He said that he is happy to inform that under the guidance of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, the government is providing more quality rice under the Public Distribution System.

He said that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will launch the fine rice distribution under the Public Distribution System at Huzurnagar in Suryapet district on March 30 at 5 PM. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka also will participate  in this program. Constituency level distribution programs will start from the first week of April, he added.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the government is providing funds for the free rice distribution scheme to 2.81 crore ration card beneficiaries in Telangana. The minister mentioned in the letter that the government has now decided to issue fresh ration cards and also include new family members.

He said that the process of issuing tri-color cards to families below the poverty line (BPL) and green color cards to families above the poverty line (APL) is in the early stages. He said that the previous BRS government did not start the process of issuing new ration cards and did not allow new family members to be added to existing ration cards.

Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the government has moved forward for the benefit of BPL families and the number of beneficiaries under this program is now likely to increase from 2.81 crore to 3.10 crore. It is known that it was announced on Friday that free rice will be distributed also to those who do not have a ration card but have their names in the list of beneficiaries.
